New businesses are springing up all over Lakewood. 732 new businesses were approved in Lakewood in 2021, and net business growth for the year was 138.
In recent months, we’ve seen grand openings (and reopenings) galore in the food and beverage sector.
Crumbl Cookies‘ first location opened just a few years ago in 2017 – they’re off to a sizzling start. When we arrived at their grand opening in Lakewood, a line wove out the door and around the building. The Lakewood location is the latest product of the company’s spree of openings through the South Sound.
The Lake City Pub has been around for a while, but the pandemic forced an extended closure of the business. They reopened their doors at last in December. The pub offers fresh food, craft cocktails, and a warm and friendly ambiance.

A Boost for BIPOC Business Owners
One especially beneficial program for local startups is the Pierce County BIPOC Business Accelerator. BIPOC and female entrepreneurs can benefit from grants and assistance to help their businesses get up and running. The City of Lakewood contributes to the program with American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Lakewood’s Newest Businesses: 2021 & 2022
Lakewood’s business community grew by 138 last year, and that growth spanned a number of sectors and business districts. New logistics firms set up shop in the Woodbrook Business District. New food service businesses popped up in the Towne Center. New service providers moved in along Bridgeport.
