Hidden Heroes 2025 Lisa Boyd

Lisa Boyd’s connection to Lakewood is both profound and enduring. Raised in a military family, Boyd is the daughter of Harry and Dr. Claudia Thomas. Her educational journey began at Lake Louise Elementary, Mann Jr. High, and Lakes High School in the Clover Park School District. Boyd pursued higher education at the University of North Carolina (Fayetteville), earning a degree in Education/Teaching. She continued her academic journey by obtaining a graduate degree and principal credentials from Central Washington University and superintendent credentials from Seattle Pacific University.

After accompanying her husband, David Boyd, a retired Army veteran, during several stateside and overseas assignments, Boyd and her family returned to Lakewood to reside. She continued her career in education, serving as a teacher and principal in the Clover Park School District. Notably, she became the first principal of Harrison Preparatory School, leading the team to graduate its first class of high school graduates and International Baccalaureate Accreditation.

In retirement, Boyd has channeled her passion for community enhancement into various roles. She serves on the Pierce College Board of Trustees and was the chairperson for the successful Clover Park School District Levy Campaign. Boyd also supports the district as a substitute principal serving in that role for extended periods during staff emergencies and illness. She and her family supported the Habitat for Humanity home named in honor of her late mother Dr. Claudia Thomas where two wonderful families now reside.  Boyd’s commitment to community building extends through her involvement with the city of Lakewood, as she serves on Lakewood’s Neighborhood Leadership Team, fostering positive relationships and collaborative problem-solving among local communities.

Boyd’s philosophy, inspired by her many positive role models, emphasizes the lasting joy and impact of serving others. Her faith in God is what keeps her motivated and grounded. She is the chairperson for the executive committee for Young-Life, which is on a mission to connect adolescents in the area to a program that provides opportunities for them to come together on a regular basis to support their spiritual growth and well-being. Boyd is a new volunteer leader for the organization’s youth summer camp that focuses on providing positive experiences for youth.

In her leisure time, Boyd enjoys traveling, cooking and often shares meals and laughter with elderly friends. Boyd’s dedication to “legacy living” underscores her mission to spread kindness and improve the quality of life for those around her.
