Yoga and Meditation

We offer a variety of Yoga classes. All classes cost $40 for four sessions unless indicated otherwise.

Gentle Yoga

$12 drop-ins available, (cash or card)

Gentle yoga slows down the asana (position) flows of vinyasa and gives each person a chance to feel out vinyasa poses with a variation that caters to the needs of beginners, injuries and those who like a calmer practice. The room will be at 80 degrees.

Mondays 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Classes are not interchangeable; if you miss a session, you cannot make it up on a different day of the week. (I.e. if you miss Monday, you cannot attend the Thursday class as a make-up.)


Vinyasa Yoga

$12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

Vinyasa is a modern style of yoga that connects body to breath in a moving meditation. It combines a series of asanas (physical positions) that target mindfulness through flow, balance, twists and inversions. This is an all-levels class that can be individualized to each person. The room will be at 80 degrees,.

Slow Flow, Mixed Level Yoga

$12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

This mixed level, Hatha yoga series offers a slower flow of poses in a calm and supportive atmosphere. The instructor will also share practices to support deepening awareness of body, mind and spirit. Students of all experience and fitness levels are welcome. Modifications will be provided for all poses. 

This four-week series will focus on:

  • Cultivating strength and flexibility 
  • Opening to awareness of the breath and the body
  • Calming and quieting the mind

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is one of the gentlest forms of yoga available. This class is accessible for everybody, no previous yoga experience is necessary. Ideal for those dealing with past injuries or limited mobility, but welcome to all! You can enjoy the many benefits of yoga without having to get up or down from the floor. Those benefits include increased balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and stress reduction.

Path to Peace: Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Rooted in an understanding of the impact of trauma, this class is crafted to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone, regardless of their past experiences. We emphasize choice and empowerment, inviting you to listen to your body and make decisions that feel right for you. The gentle guidance through postures, breathwork, and meditation aims to foster self-awareness and promote a sense of control over one’s own experience.

Sacred Self-Discovery 

$12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

A series of classes intended to help participants become familiar with their true selves. Each class will be centered around a different activity that incorporates self-directed movement, meditation, and/or energy work intended to help individuals connect with themselves on a deeper level. By forming and nurturing that connection, individuals are able to authentically express themselves in more aspects of their life. This can lead to healing from trauma, a sense of inner peace, and greater connection to the world.

Yin/Yang Yoga

Yin Yang is a style of yoga that heats up the body for the first half of class through a series of flows and then cools the body down with restorative deep stretching. It is a well-balanced class of sun and moon energy that is a great way to reset stress hormones and release endorphins. The room will be at 75 degrees.

Kirtan Chanting Course

$60 for four-week course

In this four-week series we will learn about the history of Kirtan, understand the benefits of developing a chanting practice, study the words, melody and meaning of popular Sanskrit chants, as well as chant together to experience the benefits of practicing in a group setting. Participants will receive a list of resources to continue their learning and deepen their practice beyond the course. No prior music experience is necessary.

Mindful Meditation

$10 for four-week session

An encouraging outcome of mindfulness meditation is that the results are noticeable so quickly. Decades of research have demonstrated numerous benefits. After the four-week session you will walk away having learned specific methods that will lead to reduced stress, anxiety and depression, more compassion and kindness towards oneself and others, improved emotional regulation and self-control, enhanced cognitive abilities and mental clarity, increased immune function and lowered blood pressure, better sleep quality and focus and more.

Sound Healing Workshop

$60 for 1-day workshop

Join us for an immersive afternoon of healing sound and. Kirtan, crystal singing bowls, restorative yoga and connection. We will explore the powerful expansion of the voice and our connection to others through Kirtan, a guided meditative journey of call and response chanting. We will then enter into a space of quiet integration as we experience the song of healing vibrations from the crystal singing bowls while being guided through a series of slow and gentle restorative yoga postures. This is sure to be a truly blissful and beautiful afternoon!

Cardio and Exercise

Fall Prevention/Sit and Fit

$40 for four-week class. $12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

Motivated Monday Group Exercise. This class is a perfect chance to jump start your 2024 fitness goals.  Sit or stand, this class will focus on balance and Fall prevention, cardio fitness, strength building, and flexibility.  A full exercise class will incorporate simple choreography warm-ups, fitness routines, and yoga/tai chi inspired cool downs. Your instructor will give tips and ideas on how to modify or enhance movement at your fitness level, while raising your heart rate and encouraging improvements in form and function all to a fun musical playlist. Take this time to start a fitness habit, establish some fitness goals, and/or improve what you already know.

Cardio Drumming

$40 for four-week class; $12 drop-ins (cash or card)

Cardio drumming is a dynamic cardiovascular workout that combines drumming, rhythm, and music. It’s not only a full body workout, but it will make you smile, sweat, and feel amazing! Drumming can synchronize both sides of the brain which can lead to more creativity, insight, and a calmer mind. Class includes warm-up, cardio drumming for 40 minutes, cool-down with stretching, and a short grounding practice to complete the hour. All levels welcome!

Tai Chi

$113 for eight-week class (no drop-ins available)

This class teaches participants ways to improve their overall mind, body and spirit through a series of slow continuous movements. With over 30+ year experience, instructor Ronny Llanos will teach an Abbreviated Yang Style form easy to learn for the beginner. You will walk away with tools to help; stress reduction, cardiovascular functions, balance and posture, arthritic conditions, lowering high blood pressure and more!

Qigong

$113 for eight-week class; $15 drop-in available (cash or check)

Qigong, pronounced “chi gong,” was developed in China thousands of years ago as part of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves using exercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit, with the goal of improving and maintaining health and well-being. This Qigong class is designed to stimulate the 12 meridians and will include Meridian Tapping, breath work and warmups.

Men’s Coffee Hour

Join a group of our finest Lakewood residents for conversation and coffee at our Men’s Coffee Hour on Tuesdays from 10 – 11 a.m.

This coffee and conversation hour is open to any Lakewood Seniors that just want to warm up with a cup of coffee or cocoa with friends.

Just a Walk in the Park

Join us for fellowship and fitness! It’s always a good time to get outdoors, so join us on our weekly walks in the park. We walk rain or shine (except in snow ice or high winds). Please arrive a few minutes early to sign in. Meet near the Ft. Steilacoom dog park. Please leave your dogs at home. Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

Knotty Knitters

Grab your yarn and let’s get together to knit and crochet with your friends! Grab your projects and join us! Invite your friends! Whether you knit or crochet, everyone is welcome. Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.

Brain Games

Help keep your brain engaged and challenged! Research shows that keeping your brain active can help reduce age-related cognitive disorders. Dirty Gloves Garden Club

Join a group of passionate gardeners who share the common love of growing flowers, vegetables and shrubs. Unite to learn about plants, growing techniques, occasional guest speakers, trade tips and tricks, swap stories and meet new friends! This group is for beginners to more experience gardeners.

Agents of Discovery

Explore Lakewood Parks in a whole new way! Join Agents of Discovery, the secret agency dedicated to learning and playing outdoors. Walk the parks to solve challenges and learn more about the plants, animals, and history of Lakewood.

Agents of Discovery is an augmented reality app for kids. Players attempt challenges and learn about the wildlife and history of Lakewood.

Join the Fun

Players complete a set of challenges that are created from the following options. The mission is to complete all of the challenges. Once you complete the mission, contact Cameron Fairfield ([email protected]) to claim your prize!
