Registration is now open for all classes and sessions. Please use the registration link to find the right class and time for your schedule. All Yoga, Meditation and Cardio classes are held in the Pavilion at Fort Steilacoom Park, 9107 Angle Lane SW. Parking is available behind the building or along the fence near the city park maintenance shop.

Yoga and Meditation

We offer a variety of Yoga classes. All classes cost $40 for four sessions unless indicated otherwise.

Gentle Yoga

$12 drop-ins available, (cash or card)

Gentle yoga slows down the asana (position) flows of vinyasa and gives each person a chance to feel out vinyasa poses with a variation that caters to the needs of beginners, injuries and those who like a calmer practice. The room will be at 80 degrees.

Mondays 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Classes are not interchangeable; if you miss a session, you cannot make it up on a different day of the week. (I.e. if you miss Monday, you cannot attend the Thursday class as a make-up.)


Vinyasa Yoga

$12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

Vinyasa is a modern style of yoga that connects body to breath in a moving meditation. It combines a series of asanas (physical positions) that target mindfulness through flow, balance, twists and inversions. This is an all-levels class that can be individualized to each person. The room will be at 80 degrees,.

Hatha Yoga for Beginners

$12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

Learn the fundamentals of yoga in a calm and supportive atmosphere. This slower paced class for beginning students will focus on proper alignment in the foundational poses of Hatha yoga while building strength, stability and flexibility. Class offerings will include a variety of mindfulness practices to support cultivation of present-minded awareness of breath and body. Over time there will be the option to progress toward a slow and gentle flow of poses to build a little heat.

Chair Yoga

$12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

Chair Yoga is one of the gentlest forms of yoga available. This class is accessible for everybody, no previous yoga experience is necessary. Ideal for those dealing with past injuries or limited mobility, but welcome to all! You can enjoy the many benefits of yoga without having to get up or down from the floor. Those benefits include increased balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and stress reduction.

Yin/Yang Yoga

$12 drop-ins available (cash or card)

Yin Yang is a style of yoga that heats up the body for the first half of class through a series of flows and then cools the body down with restorative deep stretching. It is a well-balanced class of sun and moon energy that is a great way to reset stress hormones and release endorphins. The room will be at 75 degrees.

April Community Meditations & Yoga

Free

Join free community meditations each Tuesday in April. All levels of meditators are welcome. Please don’t be intimidated. Everyone who comes who has not experienced sitting in meditation for an hour, says how fast the time went by. You will be surprised. Ghandi said that meditation is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your community. See how fast the results show up in your life and expand to those around you. It’s very inspiring. Experience the simplicity of Dhyana Meditation. “Sitting silently with yourself is a radical act,” Tara Broch.

In April we will also offer two Saturday sessions, including one with free yoga followed by meditation and sound healing.

Cardio and Exercise

Cardio Drumming

$40 for four-week class; $12 drop-ins (cash or card)

Cardio drumming is a dynamic cardiovascular workout that combines drumming, rhythm, and music. It’s not only a full body workout, but it will make you smile, sweat, and feel amazing! Drumming can synchronize both sides of the brain which can lead to more creativity, insight, and a calmer mind. Class includes warm-up, cardio drumming for 40 minutes, cool-down with stretching, and a short grounding practice to complete the hour. All levels welcome!

Tai Chi

$113 for eight-week class (no drop-ins available)

This class teaches participants ways to improve their overall mind, body and spirit through a series of slow continuous movements. With over 30+ year experience, instructor Ronny Llanos will teach an Abbreviated Yang Style form easy to learn for the beginner. You will walk away with tools to help; stress reduction, cardiovascular functions, balance and posture, arthritic conditions, lowering high blood pressure and more.

For those who have completed the Abbreviated Yang Style beginner course, there is an intermediate Tai Chi class. Intermediate students will start moving into Section 1 of the Old Yang Style. Students will have a deeper understanding of flow and coordination of breath and movement while following the ancient Classics of Tai chi Chuan.

Senior Programs

The Lakewood Senior Activity Center offers a variety of activities for older adults in Lakewood. Below is a list of all activities we offer, but please visit our Senior Activity Center page for updated locations, dates and times for each activity.

Men’s Coffee Hour

Join a group of our finest Lakewood residents for conversation and coffee at our Men’s Coffee Hour on Tuesdays from 10 – 11 a.m.

Coffee and Conversation

This coffee and conversation hour is open to any Lakewood Seniors that just want to warm up with a cup of coffee or cocoa with friends.

Just a Walk in the Park

Join us for fellowship and fitness! It’s always a good time to get outdoors, so join us on our weekly walks in the park. We walk rain or shine (except in snow ice or high winds). Please arrive a few minutes early to sign in. Meet near the Ft. Steilacoom dog park. Please leave your dogs at home. Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

Knotty Knitters

Grab your yarn and let’s get together to knit and crochet with your friends! Grab your projects and join us! Invite your friends! Whether you knit or crochet, everyone is welcome. Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.

Brain Games

Help keep your brain engaged and challenged! Research shows that keeping your brain active can help reduce age-related cognitive disorders. Are you interested in photography and love to take pictures? Join our group of avid photographers as we get together to share our work. NEW: Photo themes! Get out your camera, be creative, and bring your themed photos to the club meetings. Please contact us if you have any questions!

Do you love a good book and love to get together with friends? We are planning to meet in-person and we will also offer a Zoom option. We will also offer a Zoom option, please contact us for the link. There is nothing like great friends and a good book! Please join us in person or by Zoom!

Dirty Gloves Garden Club

Join a group of passionate gardeners who share the common love of growing flowers, vegetables and shrubs. Unite to learn about plants, growing techniques, occasional guest speakers, trade tips and tricks, swap stories and meet new friends! This group is for beginners to more experience gardeners.

Agents of Discovery

Explore Lakewood Parks in a whole new way! Join Agents of Discovery, the secret agency dedicated to learning and playing outdoors. Walk the parks to solve challenges and learn more about the plants, animals, and history of Lakewood.

Agents of Discovery is an augmented reality app for kids. Players attempt challenges and learn about the wildlife and history of Lakewood.

Join the Fun

Players complete a set of challenges that are created from the following options. The mission is to complete all of the challenges. Once you complete the mission, contact Cameron Fairfield ([email protected]) to claim your prize!

Instructions

  1. Download the Agents of Discovery app
  2. Use the app to find a “mission.”
  3. Travel to the park and complete your mission!
