About

The Youth Fishing Event happens yearly in Lakewood at one of our two parks with shoreline to American Lake. We host the event in collaboration with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. A netted area near the beach is stocked with fish from our local hatcheries. Each kid is given their own pole to keep and enjoys a 60-minute teaching session. Additionally, bait and bags for caught fish are provided.

We have held this event at American Lake Park and Harry Todd Park. The 2024 event will be at American Lake Park.

Only children and youth may fish. Adults may only assist.

Registration Information

There are four sessions for the 2024 Kid Fishing Event. Each session is one hour. Please arrive during the time you signed up to attend. This allows everyone space to fish along the beach, and ensures volunteers are able to assist.

Registration cost is $10. This includes a take-home fishing pole for all participants and at least one fish to bring home and eat. This event is for children ages 5 to 14.

Session times:

  • Session 1: 8 a.m.
  • Session 2: 9 a.m.
  • Session 3: 10 a.m.
  • Session 4: 11 a.m.

Register using this Active Net link. You will need to create an Active Net account to register.
