Diamond Designs Unlimited has been operating for 35 years, and owner Shawn Luvaas is as appreciative to be in Lakewood as we are to have him here. An active member of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, the crew at Diamond Designs regularly contributes to the community by supporting other businesses, providing internships to local students, charitable donations and many other ways.
In the words of Luvaas: “I sell a want, not a need. But it makes people happy, which makes me happy.” He is also adamant that running a business is not about the money but the opportunities it provides to give back to the community.
There are more ways to make people happy than selling jewelry, and it’s some of the smaller day-to-day tasks that Luvaas takes comfort in.
“Tuesday seems to be watch day. Everyone’s watch battery dies over the weekend, and they come in to have me change it,” he said.
On top of changing watch batteries, Luvaas finds joy in taking time to clean jewelry for free to both customers and non-customers. “People come in with a dirty ring and I spend five, six, seven minutes cleaning it and a big smile goes on their face.”
Because of its commitment to serving the community with happiness, its longevity in Lakewood and its dedication to supporting other Lakewood businesses and residents through partnership with the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and internship opportunities, that the Lakewood City Council awarded the November 2024 Business Showcase to Diamond Designs Unlimited.
