City Recognized for Budget Presentation

Lakewood’s 2021-2022 budget document recognized for quality as financial document, and as a policy document and communications tool.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The City of Lakewood has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

The GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation award acknowledges budget documents that excel as policy documents, financial plans, operations guides, and communications tools.

The City of Lakewood’s 2021-2022 Adopted Biennial Budget describes the investment of taxpayer funds and quantifies the policy priorities of the City.

2021 Adopted Operating Expenditures show that 64% of the City of Lakewood General Fund operating budget is appropriated for the Lakewood Police Department, 12% for Parks, Recreation, & Community Services, and 7% for Community & Economic Development.

Page 15 of the 2021-2022 Adopted Biennial Budget document describes the City’s investment into human services programs to support behavioral health, access to food, housing assistance, and crisis stabilization services.

Earlier this year, the City of Lakewood completed the GFOA “Triple Crown”, earning all three headline financial transparency awards presented by the Government Finance Officers Association.

“We strive for excellence with every financial document we produce. Transparency is central to our duty as government finance officers – our intent is to prepare high-quality and informative financial reports that residents can access and understand.”
