2025 Pierce County Legislative Priorities
- Promoting middle housing development like accessory dwelling units by addressing sewer fees
- Allocation of Opioid settlement funds.
- Identifying ways to respond to the rise in juvenile crime.
- Support for the partnership with the Pierce County Library System to address the urgent need of permanent and safe library spaces in Lakewood, to include an Interim green space at the current location of the main Lakewood library.
2024 South Sound Housing Affordability Partners Legislative Priorities
The South Sound Housing Affordability Partners (SSHA3P) is a voluntary collaboration among 14 governments to create and preserve affordable, attainable, and accessible housing throughout Pierce County. Learn more about SSHA3P here.
SSHA3P Legislative Priorities:
- Support basic infrastructure funding via flexible funds through programs like the Public Works Assistance Account (PWAA) and Connecting Housing to Infrastructure Program (CHIP) to help cities and towns fund basic infrastructure, critical to the development of housing.
- Monitor proposals to increase access to homeownership opportunities, including condominium liability reform and recommendations made by the Homeownership Disparity Workgroup.
- Oppose preemption of local land use authority.
