The Landmarks and Heritage Advisory Board assigns and protects historical landmarks in Lakewood.


Description

The Landmarks and Heritage Board advises the City Council on the protection of historical landmarks by:

  1. Holding public meetings on potential historical landmarks
  2. Hiring professionals to examine potential landmarks
  3. Deciding whether a location qualifies as a landmark

Membership

Election and Terms

Board terms are three years and go into effect every January 1. If there is a vacancy, the spot will be filled immediately and the term will end on the normal date. There is no term limit.

Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.

Requirements for Membership

Three members of the board must have professional experience in historic fields. These include, but are not limited to:

  1. General History
  2. Cultural Anthropology
  3. Cultural Geography
  4. Architecture
  5. Archaeology

All other members must show interest in historic preservation.

Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
